Happy Blood Day!

What?!
No you read correctly. Ladies seriously, why not pamper ourselves a bit more during “that time of the month”? Today’s society still treats a woman’s monthly menstruation cycle as something to be out of sight and not spoken of. As far as cramps and the like, we are expected to grin and bear it. Why not change these ideas starting with a little celebratory cake?

On a Street in Switzerland

Absorbed blood is red, and pulled string is blue,
something this tampon never came to knew.
If only it's owner hadn't mistakenly left it upon Zurich's streets,
she might have opened the door to these treats.
Now here it lies abandoned and alone.
For you tampon, is this poem.

I love my tampon bag...

We searched for already existing “second packaging” products for sale, and were surprised how cheesy they were.

We decided to brainstorm some ideas of our own.

What do you think? Here's your chance to be the designer:

You want me to put that where?!

We then transitioned to the present. Specifically, how menstrual products look today, where they are sold, and how they are presented in stores. We looked into the virtual world again as well, to see how menstrual product manufacturers present their products: what offers they extend, what their advertisements say, and what general impressions they give. We collected products, comparing types, brands and noted the product differences between countries. What we found was a general medicinal, and not to mention ugly, packaging for almost all of the products we inspected. How is a woman supposed to carry these things with her in good taste? Is is possible to create a tasteful and hygienic second packaging?

Fairy Bloodmother

What comes to mind when menstruation is the topic of conversation?
We wanted to know, and started by surfing the net about the topic. From our searches, we began to see attitude tendencies.
What were the reasons for these tendencies? How does the history of menstrual products play a role in their formation? What themes from the past influence perceptions of menstruation from today?
